Pet Basheerabad Police Station registered the case on May 8 after the mother of a girl accused 25-year-old Bhageerath of repeated sexual assaults. According to the complaint, one of the alleged assaults took place at a farmhouse in Moinabad on December 31, 2025. Investigators later upgraded the charges to aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act, a non-bailable offence carrying a minimum punishment of 20 years imprisonment.
Police officials stated that Bhageerath has remained unreachable since May 8, triggering a manhunt to locate him. Authorities have reportedly intensified search operations as posters describing him as absconding surfaced in several areas, further amplifying public attention surrounding the case.
Amid the investigation, Bhageerath filed a counter-complaint alleging that the girl and her family attempted to extort money from him. The case has also become complicated due to conflicting documents related to the girl’s age, a dispute expected to play a critical role in the legal proceedings.
Bhageerath is scheduled to seek anticipatory bail on May 14 as legal teams prepare for a crucial hearing in the matter. The case has rapidly evolved into a politically sensitive controversy, with opposition parties demanding the resignation of the Union Minister linked to the accused.
